Comic 134: Steam Directionless

Even if Steam Direct becomes way more expensive, people will always find a way to get their games up

(also schedule will probably be a bit weird until I'm done with these last months of school, sorry about that!)

Heh, does Harambe simulator include the $100,000 Harambe-shaped cheeto as DLC?

by Zanreo at 16th Feb 2017, 3:58 AM

If they reach their 200000$ stretch goal, sure!

I laughed so hard at this, so much crap out there and the creators so desperate to publish it, so yes, why not turn it into a business xD

There went the days where we *earned* money when gotten something published o.O

by Zanreo at 17th Feb 2017, 2:15 AM

Haha yeah x3

and I'm happy stuff like Kickstarter exists, otherwise many people would never be able to afford getting their ideas out there... but yeah, this probably wouldn't be too far off from what crowdfunding sites would turn into if things like this got too expensive.

by Miaubol at 19th Feb 2017, 10:03 PM

Yes, definitely, Kickstarter and similar things are really great :D

..the sad part is when someone's not using Kickstarter, but pays a huge amount of money from their own pocket to get their stuff published, and then nobody cares about it because it's so abysmally bad .......

by MadJak91 at 17th Feb 2017, 8:36 PM

Tricky situation and another "feature" that could potentially work but I only smell money. Because we need more badly tagged shovelware games up there than GL could deliver over the years.
In THEORY the price is good enough to scare away your usual crappy RPGM game scrubs or the likes of REDACTED Homicide because the investment is not worth it but yes, KickStarter or similar. People are much more inclined to pay pitiful 500 bucks for lulz than 30k for lulz as well!

Come to think of it, this one publisher offered a helping hand to creators and they will pay for the games but then take their cut once the game is successful.

Ah well. If I need this kind of games, I can use Newgrounds for free.

by Zanreo at 18th Feb 2017, 6:16 AM

The thing is, even if a high price would scare away quick, terrible games and trolls, it would also be an extra barrier for poorer devs who still put a lot of effort into their work - it would only be the devs with money who could get their games up on Steam in the end, and more money doesn't always mean better results.

This is a great comic! I just caught up a few days ago. I really like the character designs. What day does it update? Sorry if it already says it on the site and I missed it.

by Zanreo at 18th Feb 2017, 6:17 AM

Thanks! :D

As for updates... I used to do updates on Friday and then Monday but currently I'm a bit busy with last year of college and other stuff so I can't really promise a schedule for a while... I'll try to get up at least one new comic each week though!

Honestly? I'd probably play Clicker Clicker. I'm a sucker for meta humor.

by Zanreo at 20th Feb 2017, 9:08 AM

Haha, me too x3

I'm pretty sure there WAS a "Watch Paint Dry Simulator" that got removed because it served no purpose other than SiIva themed emoticons.

by Zanreo at 7th Mar 2017, 4:54 PM

Huh, I see! That does sound like a better purpose than that game concept though

by Cubase at 11th Mar 2017, 2:01 AM

I'd be up for a Meme Run 2. Shame the original got taken down because the original artist happens to have copyrighted the trollface.

by Zanreo at 11th Mar 2017, 8:11 PM

Yeah, and actually from what I've heard the artist might let people use it if they only ask first... he just doesn't like uncredited use he's not aware of.
