And here we see just what this "big new project" is... Rare isn't too happy, even if this brings more money.

And that's the end of the Rare storyline! Hope you enjoyed :D Next up will be a remake of an earlier storyline...

I thought it would be Nuts and Bolts but the Kinect works about the same really

by Zanreo at 28th Jul 2015, 6:53 AM

Yeah, and the Kinect was the only thing they did for years... at least they seem to have gotten back to making other stuff too now

Considering how much guff Nintendo gets over motion controls and people griping about them "not working right", you'd think Microsoft would have figured the Kinect wasn't that great of an idea. Of course, Sony also did the motion control thing too. How'd that go again?

Oh. Right. Nobody uses that either. But people do use Nintendo's motion controls.

Remind me again why so many people keep complaining about Nintendo's motion controls when they're the only ones who seem to make it work right?

by Zanreo at 28th Jul 2015, 7:40 AM

Yeah, I guess Microsoft (and also Sony) only saw the "money" part and how they could also cash in on the motion-control craze... they forgot they would have to actually make it interesting too

And then most of Rare's internal organs realized what a pitiful existence they lived and snuck off in the night to form their own being.

...and that's how Playtonic was born!

One could argue that Rare was imitating Nintendo as far back as when they were working for Nintendo. Certainly their Donkey Kong games received frequent comparisons to Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and Mario Kart, while Dinosaur Planet was cribbing from the Ocarina of Time playbook even before Nintendo forced the Star Fox franchise onto it. Of course, you could tell that they put heart into those games (well, maybe not Star Fox Adventures, but still), which is harder to say for their Microsoft work.

True, they might still have been copying stuff, but at least those games were good...

Poor Rare. I have to hope that this isn't the TRUE ending. (As in, there's a happier future somewhere down the road.)

by Zanreo at 28th Jul 2015, 8:50 AM

Well, after last E3 things seem to at least possibly be improving SLIGHTLY... let's hope this continues getting better
