Comic 110: Namco and Atari: The Backstory - 2

The story continues, and we see more of Namco and Atari's past. Namco would some years later, in 1978, open up an American subsidiary, close to Atari's old headquarters, which would at first license their games to American publishers like Midway and, of course, Atari. Later that year they would release their first original, internally developed game.

By the way, the thing mentioned in the second to last panel... was a real thing an Atari employee did.

If everyone in this universe is an anthropomorphic game company...then who actually plays the games?

by Zanreo at 12th Aug 2016, 4:41 AM

Haha, well not "everyone" exactly, but all the important characters. There's still regular humans/customers, they just don't appear much

These two are GREAT together! So adorable!

(I always love lively Atari - she's my favorite!)

It is always "back then" but yeah. Back then everyone was a greenhorn so any help was appreciated. Even some studios helped each other with making games even though they were competition. Programming for each other.
Although some aggressiveness was always there which is natural.

lmao at the wall-walking :D
The guy then hit his head on the water sprinkler and they had no idea what to put on the report :D

by Zanreo at 13th Aug 2016, 5:31 AM

Yeah, at that time I guess they were more likely to help each other... and you see even today, indie studios often help others, share tips ect. even if the others might technically be "competitors"

And yeah, lots of weird stuff went down at Atari... could be an idea for a later comic x3

Coloring and shading is especially impressive here. Your art has grown by leaps and bounds.

by Zanreo at 13th Aug 2016, 5:41 AM

Thanks! Been improving a lot lately, I've noticed... also not shading, but been trying to practise my art lately

That hallway thing sounds fun. But imagine the reaction the janitor had later that day.

"How are there shoeprints all along the wall?! Am I being Punk'd?!"

by Zanreo at 14th Aug 2016, 10:11 AM

Hahaha, yeah xD

That's so nice that they get along so well! And that Atari isn't horrified by Namco's ice cream ideas! Although maybe she would be if she tried eating some...

by Zanreo at 27th Sep 2016, 11:25 PM

Yeah, I was looking forwards to drawing their friendship :D

Also, she did actually try it at one point (the first "weird ice cream", I'd link but I'm on mobile
